Martin Parnell ran 250 marathons from Jan.1st to Dec.31st 2010. His goal was to raise $250,000 for Right To Play.
Right To Play is an international, humanitarian organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, develop life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world.
Right To Play also works in over 5,000 Canadian schools to inspire children and support their right to grow and learn, through physical activity.
Martin ran five marathons a week, with Fridays and Saturdays being recovery days, covering a total distance of 10,550km (6550miles) and taking 12.9 million steps.
The majority of the marathons were ran along the Bow River in Cochrane and Calgary, Alberta. However, others were ran at official events such as the Boston Marathon (Apr 19th), Vancouver Marathon (May 2nd) and Calgary Marathon (May 30th). Martin also ran marathons at 60 schools, running with over 12,000 children.
Martin completed his 250th marathon on Dec.31st 2010 and raised $320,000 for Right To Play.
Since then Martin has started his "Quests for Kids" initiative. He is attempting to complete 10 Quests in 5 years, raise $1m for Right To Play and help 20,000 kids.
