The product award of the week goes to the lowly hand warmer. Stepping out of the front door into -30C I knew it was going to be a tough day. I had been struggling with the nozzle of my hydration pack freezing over the last couple of days, several people had suggested tucking it inside my jacket but I went with innovation: I found a small zipper pouch, put in two "hand warmers" and shoved in the nozzle (patent pending). I'd like to show you a photo of the "Nozzle Warmer Upper" however, technical difficulties prevent this. Webmaster Jeffrey is working on the problem as we speak.

I had also had problems with my camera freezing up so, yes, two "hand warmers" into the case and I was on my way. Today was a ski goggles day but unfortunately sticking "hand warmers" against the lenses wasn't an option. How do you stop them freezing up at -30C, ideas welcome. I had been plodding around the course for 4 1/2hr, when I got a call on my cell. It was Frank Carmichael at a radio station in Chicago. Could I do an interview? Why not? So, I huddled at the side of the road, trying to protect the phone from the wind and chatted for 15mins. After I'd said good bye, it took me another 15mins to thaw my hands. Tomorrow, off to the first school, Mount View in Calgary, excellent.

Quote of the day

"No negative thoughts cross my mind on race day. When I look into their eyes, I know I'm going to beat them."
