Today, I paid a return visit to The Hamptons School, one of the schools I went to in March. At the time I was injuried and could only do a couple of loops around the parking lot. I felt terrible and asked them to reschedule. It was great to be back and Principal Barb greeted me at the door. This was going to be a fun run. I had met School Caretaker, Chico, in March and he had come out to run at the 100th marathon in June. Today, he was going to tackle the marathon with me. Excellent.
We started off at 7.45am and were joined by Parents Holly and Mike, and their son Jordan. Jordan is part of the running club and wanted to get a few loops in before the rest of the club hooked up with us. At 8.30am another 50 kids tagged on and away we went. These running clubs are a brilliant idea. Three days a week the kids run for half an hour and count their loops. When they hit 42 loops they get a gold medal. After a short assembly, Holly, Mike, Chico and myself continued. Holly and Mike were going to do 10km but stayed and did a half marathon. Great work guys.
Chico and I circled loop after loop and at 2.00pm we were finished. The school goes from Kindergarten to grade 3 and has 160 sudents. They were all out cheering us in and at an awards ceremony on the soccer field Chico and I were presented with gold medals. Also, they raised $298 for Right To Play.
