It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Today I ran at Marion Carson School in Calgary. Teacher Dan drove me over and I started running at 8.15am. The plan was to run until 2.45pm and then have an assembly with the children, before doing a 1km "Winter Walk" with them. I had had a bit of a sleepless night, wondering how my left shin would hold up during the marathon. Yesterday I had to walk the last 7km of the snowshoe marathon because of the pain.

Things went pretty well for 27km, Runner Gerry joined me for a couple of hours, and the shin pain seemed under control. Every 3hrs I popped two Advil, but at 11.45am I realised that I could walk the rest of the marathon and make it for 2.45pm. I did this and walked into assembly at 2.47pm, having completed 41.2 Km. Vice-Principal Harley got the kids warmed up with "If I could walk 500 miles" by the Proclaimers and then I chatted with them about what I was trying to do for Right To Play. We walked the last 1km around the playground and then it was time for home. Teacher Dan picked me up and we stopped off at his place. Nurse Pam looked at my leg and said it was either shin splints or a stress fracture. This evening, I booked in to see my family doctor at 10.10am tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
