The shin felt good this morning and I was keen to see how it would stand up to another "Walking Marathon". I find that I have to add a couple of extra layers for walking versus running. I'm just not generating the same body heat and my feet and hands have been cold. The route is 880m along the edge of the Bow River and 880m back. In the early morning there's a single goose that patrols up and down the river, honking as it flies along. In the afternoon, there's a pair of geese which sit on an ice shelf on the other side of the river. A couple of times, walkers with dogs have passed them, but they don't back off, they just stand tall and honk. In the late afternoon, a follicley-challenged eagle (politically correct term) hovered over the river and made a couple of dives.
Meanwhile, in a town not 1,500km from Cochrane, Avatar "Marathon Martin" has said goodbye to his new friends in Portage la Prairie in Manitoba. He's had a wonderful time and has spent 2 1/2 weeks at the Little House on the Portage la Prairie B&B. During his stay, he visited the world's largest Coca-Cola can and the potato processing plants for McCain Foods and Simplot, which provide french fries for McDonalds, Wendy's and various other restaurant chains. His next stop, Winnipeg.
