Over breakfast, I was trying to figure the route I would take today around Cochrane. The problem was if I head North, East or South there are monster hills to climb in order to get out of the river valley. The only sensible choice was West, towards the mountains. As I started along the 1A I had the wind at my back and I knew it would be a long day. I thought I'd head out 14km then turn around but, at 13km, a sign emerge out of the mist "Ghost Station". This name always reminds me of the Hayao Miyazaki animated classic "Spirited Away". A 10 year old girl, Chihiro, is sitting in a train as it crosses a lake. The train stops in the middle of the lake, at a station, and ghosts get on and off before it continues on its way. At the "Ghost Station" on the 1A I got a coffee and Snickers bar, much more practical.
The second part of my run took me through an "off leash" park along the river. I love dogs but I sometimes have a problem with their owners. Last week I was running along this section when an Alsatian bounded over and started to jump up at me. I put my arms up and the owner yelled "don't wave your arms you're just encouraging him". OK. Today, as I ran along the path a German Shepherd loped over and started to jump up at me. I didn't raise my arms (don't want to encourage the big fella) and asked the owner to take control. He came over and I thought he was going to say "Sorry, mate" or " He's a playful pup". Instead he said "you got beef jerky in that backpack". Beef jerky in that backpack!!! Yes, of couse I do. I've got 10lbs of the stuff and I'm making a delivery. Give me a break.
