It's 8.00pm and I'm finishing up my blog. My ribs hurt and I've got band-aids on my left knee, elbow and right hand. But let's go back 15 hours. It was 5.00am and I was standing outside the Spray Lakes Sports Centre. I had sent out an invite to all my running buddies to join me for a half marathon before the Footstock Half Marathon race. However, there was only me, myself and I at the start line so we all headed off together. It was a beautiful morning with mist rolling down the river. I made my way along the red rock pathways and I was soon at the far west end of the town.

I was thinking about the beauty of the river, trees and mountains when the next thing I knew I was eating asphalt. I was in a bit of a daze and did see spots. I sat by the side of the path trying to assess the damage. I had fallen on my left side with the knee and ribs taking most of the impact. My cheek bone hit the surface but I couldn't feel any blood. I stood up and tried a couple of tentative steps. Seemed OK. I pushed on with a bit of blood going down the left leg. I arrived back at Spray Lake Sports Centre at 7.50am and went straight to the medical tent. It's the first time I've gone to the med tent before a race. Sue joined me at the start line and at 8.00am we were off. The day got hotter and hotter but we ran a very respectable 2hr 38min 18sec.

It's now 8.34pm. Time to take some Advil.

Quote of the Day

"I can honestly say that I was never affected by the question of the success of an undertaking. If I felt it was the right thing to do, I was for it regardless of the possible outcome."
