Below are the Latest Marathon stats:
I got out of bed very tentatively this morning. My ribs and shoulder was sore but the knees, left elbow and right hand seemed OK. Today was the Kids Triathlon. In the past it was the TimBits Trevor Dickson Memorial Kids of Steel but this year it was the TimBits Trevor Dickson Memorial Kids Triathlon (insurance issues). Sue headed out to volunteer and I left from the house to run. I had problems breathing and I took things pretty slow for the first half hour. The Triathlon was centred around the Big Hill Pool and it was great seeing so many kids preparing for the swim. The ages of the kids are 4 to 16 years, the event is capped at 260 and sells out in 5 hours.
I met Sue around the back of Safeway, our usual volunteer spot, and had a coffee and a sandwich. The day was starting to warm up. I looped around town a few times, meeting up with Runners Kevin and Kathy. One of the other volunteers told me that the 5km race was at 12:30pm and I decided to run it as a bandit. My breathing was getting a little easier and I didn't see anything wrong with running the 5km at a nice even pace. Runner Annie counted down 5,4,3,2,1...Go....and we were off. The first couple of km's went well and I was feeling good. Why not edge it up a bit. The next two km's flew by and as I came down the home stretch I was neck and neck with another runner. Time to switch on the after-burners. Unfortunately, he took me at the line. I didn't feel great. I walked home.
Note to self: Don't race a 5km after running 30km before.
