There are some very positive aspects to rain. It makes all the shrubs and grass a vibrant green. The trails are soft and giving, to the runners stride. The farmers are happy, their crops grow tall and strong, ready to be harvested when the SUN comes out. Nobody gets those horrible SUN burns. When it's raining and the SUN peaks through you get a beautiful rainbow. OK enough of that. It's raining again and I had to go out in it. This morning I headed off to North Haven School. As I drove along the 1A, I ploughed through huge puddles, sending the spray way beyong the hard shoulder. I arrived at North Haven School at 7.45am and Principal Lisa got me a cup of coffee. She told that, due to Provincial testing, there would be no morning assembly but there would be one in the afternoon.
I headed down to the soccer field and started my loops. This was one of the shortest routes I had done to date. The total distance was 300m which meant that I would have to go round 140 times. It ended up like an interval training session, 140 x 240m (60m walk break), albeit a fairly long one. The school has 374 students from grade 1 to 6. All through the morning they joined me and we ran in the rain singing "Hey Ho - Let's Go". As the day wore on the 300m route started to get a little slick and muddy. Kids were slipping over and I almost trod on a grade 1er. That would not have gone over well with Principle Lisa. I would probably have got detention. Because of the weather I kept things moving and finished at 1.45pm. All the kids were called into assembly and Principal Lisa told me that they had raised $79.00 for Right To Play. Great work gang.
