There are several things I forgot to mention about yesterday's visit to Sunalta school.

  • RadioGuy Buzz Bishop joined me for a number of loops around the soccer field. Buzz has run with me on several occasions and it's always a pleasure having him along.
  • The kids feel that I'm on three Quests. Marathon Quest: To run 250 marathons in 1 year, I'm at 113. School Quest: To run at 50 schools in one year, I'm at 23. Ice Cream Quest: To eat all 47 flavours at Mackays Ice Cream store, I'm at 4. The pressure is on.
  • At the end of yesterday's marathon, a group of 30 students burst into a full rendition of "Oh Canada". Very moving.

Today's marathon was in Cochrane and I decided it was time to run some trails. I spent the day winding my way around creeks and wooded areas, along rivers and over hills. Of course I had to end the run with a visit to Mackays. Today's flavour, bubble gum.

Avatar Marathon Martin spent a very enjoyable day in New York, on his virtual route across North America. The number one attraction for him was the Statue of Liberty. He took a boat over to Liberty Island and next to a hot dog stand was a plaque. It stated that "The Statue of Liberty (Statue de la Liberté), officially entitled "Liberty Enlightning the World (la Liberté éclairant le monde)", dedicated on October 28, 1886, is a monument commemorating the centennial of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independance. It was given to the United States by the people of France to represent the friendship between the two countries established during the American Revolution." The next day he was on the road again, heading west towards Scranton, the home of one of his heroes, Michael Scott.

Quote of the Day
