Today, I was running at Elizabet Barrett School in Cochrane, the last school of the current school year. I arrived at 7.45 and met Principal Joanne. A few laps of the soccer field and it was assembly time. This school runs from JK to grade 4 and has over 400 students in attendance. This was another 420m loop, 100 times around for the marathon. Kids joined me straight away and the conversation flowed on this beautiful sunny day. The first topic of conversation was goffers. The field had loads of holes and the kids said that these animals were a menace. I suggested we create Goffer Town with little houses for them. The kids were not impressed and said they should be killed. Ruthless little darlings.

In the early afternoon, a group of grade 2ers joined me and Gabby said she had a poem that she said in her head as she ran along. It went:

  • Running's not work,
  • Don't be a squishy jerk,
  • Running is fun,
  • So run, run, run.       It works for me.

Students came and went and the chat switched from the World Cup, to food, to pets and back to the World Cup. Several of the kids had watched a number of games and were very knowledgeable about what was going on. The concensus was a Brazil vs Argentina final. I finished my marathon at 2.10pm and talked to Principal Joannne before I left. Tomorrow is their Right To Play day and they will be fundraising for the charity. Stay tuned I'll let you know how much they raised as soon as they call me.
