Below are the Latest Marathon stats:
Busy day yesterday. I picked up 3 new pairs of shoes, one from Gord's Running Store and the other two from the New Balance store in Crowfoot, Calgary. At Gord's I decided to try a pair of Mizuno's. I've used 8 different brands of shoes so far and they would make number 9. He showed me a pair of Newton's but I thought that might be too much of a change for me.
The World Cup isn't the only big soccer tournament going on. Today, was the Cochrane U12 Soccer Challenge and if I couldn't go to Africa then I would be at the challenge. Sue and I headed off to the West Rock soccer fields at 7.30am and arrived at 8.00am. A couple of people were there so I started running around the field and Sue headed back home. In the next hour lots of soccer mums, dads and kids arrived. They lay down their blankets and settled in for the morning. A number of games started and for 2 hours it was like bees around a honey pot. The kids had a blast.
I then headed over to Mitford fields for some slightly more competitive games. The big match up of the day was the girls U8 Blue Jays vs. Pink Flamingoes. Both teams had demolished their previous opposition and it was now time for the two power houses to meet each other. The game had a slow start with both teams palying a fluid passing game. At half time it was 0 - 0 with all to play for. The second half was much livelier and both goalies were tested with some fine long range shots. With 3 minutes to go the Pink Flamingoes got a free kick, just on the edge of the penalty area. The Blue Jays put up a 3 girl wall but #7 from the Flamingoes hit the ball perfectly, over the heads (tallest girl 4' 2") of the wall and into the top left hand corner. A stunning victory for the Flamingoes.
On top of this the soccer mums, dads and kids raised $429.42 for Right To Play.GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
