Today was Dr. Antosz's picnic fundraiser. Dr. Antosz is an Orthodontist and every year he has a big picnic for family, friends and patients. All the money they collect, from games and food, goes to a charity. This year the choosen charity is Right To Play. I arrived at the park at 7.45am and started to explore. I found a great 3km loop along the Bow River, over some miniature train tracks, across a lagoon, through a deep, dark woods and back to the picnic site. I had completed a number of loops when a truck arrived and started to unload a bunch of gear. There was a bouncy castle, climbing wall and tons of sports gear.
Parents and kids started to arrive at 11.00am and at 11.30am the master of ceremonies, Captain Canada (AKA Gery), welcomed everyone. During the afternoon, the kids played lots of games. I joined in a game of soccer but I was hacked down but an 8 year old girl. Captain Canada didn't hesitate and gave her a red card. A little harsh, possibley. A number of the kids and their parents joined me for a loop around the park and several wanted me to come to their school in the fall. The highlight of the day was throwing cream pies at Dr Antosz. He was a good sport and must have taken 30 pies in the face. Mine was not one of them, as I missed. At the end of the day the picnic had raised $1,200 for Right To Play and everyone had a blast.
